Semiotics in Advertising

Image result for UK Print advert
The advert features a stack of mobile telephones together, which resemble a glass filled with beer, which is a good way to remind the audience about the Guinness brand that this is representing. This also ties in with the main message behind the entire print advertisement, which is reminding the audience to enjoy the beer, and take a break from using the phone. This is further signified by the fact that the phones are all facing down.

Also, we can see the table which the phones are resting on implies that the advert is set within a bar. The amount of phones which are stacked implies that most people within the bar have indeed placed their phones down voluntarily (suggested by the use of ‘please’ in the single line of text).

We also see the people slightly blurred within the background of the image, which is suggesting to the audience that they are still having a good time socialising with the people that are around them, which will encourage the audience to act. We also can possibly see a member of the bar staff, reminding the audience that this is indeed an advertisement for beer.

Finally, the relatively low amount of text featured on the advert will bring focus to the central theme, which is the ‘glass’ being shown in the centre
